Parc Astérix is France’s second-biggest theme park after Disneyland® Paris. A visit to Parc Astérix is a great introduction to the very Franco-Belgian phenomenon of bandes dessinées (comics), of which Asterix is one of the most famous examples. The series follows a village of indomitable Gauls as they resist Roman occupation.
Asterix was created by the legendary comic writer René Goscinny and illustrator Albert Uderzo.
Recognisable around the world and translated into 111 languages, the Asterix comics are icons of French culture – so much so that the first French satellite launched in 1965 was called Asterix!
The park opened in 1989 and is well known for its impressive variety of rollercoasters.
You’ll be sucked into the universe of the comics, as you transport menhirs, train to become a Roman soldier and watch the Gauls and Romans go head-to-head.
This is the perfect trip to reward hard work and to show young students how exciting learning French can be. And it’s a great option for an Activities Week trip to France!
Most groups who arrange a school trip to Parc Astérix choose to include some time spent in Paris, which is just 35km from the theme park.
This allows students the opportunity to develop their understanding of French culture even further, by visiting the capital with all its historic monuments and exciting cultural attractions.
If you’re looking for an exciting French school trip that will inspire a passion for the French language and culture, it would be hard to beat a French school trip to Parc Astérix and Paris.
Your students will be distracted from any nerves or apprehension they have around using French and will relax and enjoy being immersed in such a beautiful language. You never know, it may even encourage them to take their French studies further!
