As well as providing practical experiences of using the language to communicate with native speakers, a school trip to China will also help your students better understand the culture. This is of huge benefit to young students, as the Chinese culture is not only one of the oldest in the world, it’s also so different to European cultures.

Our school trips to Beijing not only include visits to historical and cultural attractions, such as the Great Wall and Tiananmen Square but also offer the opportunity for students to visit a local school. This will allow them to practise speaking Chinese with local students of their age group.

Develop their understanding of China

China is a country of many different mutually unintelligible languages and dialects and Mandarin Chinese is the lingua franca that allows Chinese people from every corner of this vast country to communicate with each other. Mandarin is also an important language in Singapore and Taiwan, as well as in the United Nations and the wider Chinese diaspora.

And as one of the world’s largest economies, with the world’s largest population, the ability to speak Mandarin is going to be a huge benefit to your students in the future. And the skills they need to speak the language can, of course, be taught in a classroom in the UK.

What cannot be taught in that classroom is a deeper appreciation of the culture, as this has to be experienced. By taking your students to China, you will provide them with the opportunity to better understand what China is all about. They’ll pick up cultural nuances that just can’t be taught in the classroom and this experience and understanding of the culture will help them to better communicate with Chinese people.

Your students will learn more about Imperial China with visits to the Forbidden City, the Ming Tombs and the Great Wall of China.

And they’ll be able to learn more about the rise of the People’s Republic of China in Tiananmen Square, where the new state was declared.

They’ll also have plenty of opportunities to spend time with locals, such as the visit to the local school, where they’ll pick up on some of the cultural nuances and find out what life is like in modern China.
