Learn about sustainable management of resources and explore an active volcano.
School trips to Tenerife offer students the unforgettable experience of seeing geography in action and are a fantastic choice for groups interested in volcanoes and sustainability!
Tenerife is a fascinating island and whatever your reason for visiting, we’ll ensure that your itinerary is designed to suit your specific requirements and learning objectives and is a fun, educational experience for your students.
Tenerife is not only the largest and most populous of the Canary Islands, but also of Macronesia. Although part of Spain, it offers a completely different experience to the country's big cities, like Barcelona or Madrid, as it actually lies closer to the west coast of Africa than Europe. This difference makes Tenerife a great choice for a geography trip.
The geologically active island is home to the world’s third largest volcano, Mt. Teide, which dominates Tenerife and, in fact, created the island as we see it now – originally it was three separate islands!
Mt. Teide is part of a complex of volcanoes that can be explored on a visit to Mt. Teide National Park, where your students will discover volcanoes, craters, vents and lava flows.
Another popular visit for geography groups is the Cueva del Viento, which is one of the largest lava tubes in the world! Here, your students will see for themselves how the lava flow from a volcanic eruption is able to carve out the rock.
As well as learning more about volcanoes, Tenerife also offers students the opportunity to learn more about tourism and sustainability.
At Casas Bioclimaticas, your students will have the opportunity to explore how this eco-friendly housing development is using renewable energy to create a vision for the future of homebuilding.
Tourism is the predominant industry on the island so Tenerife is a fantastic destination in which to explore the effects of tourism on the environment.
And you’ll be interested to learn that Casas Bioclimaticas are rented out as holiday lets, showing one way the tourism industry on the island can become more sustainable.
Tenerife boasts incredible ecological diversity, which is remarkable when you consider the island’s small area. In fact, over 100 species of flora are endemic to Tenerife!
This is due to the unique environmental conditions on the island. The island’s volcanoes have modified the climatic conditions, creating various microclimates.
