School Rugby Tour to South Africa

Halsbury Sticker

Take your school rugby team on a tour of South Africa, a country that lives and breathes rugby! South Africa is home to the Springboks, who burst onto the international rugby scene thanks to a victorious home World Cup.

When a match is played over here, whole towns and villages come to a grinding halt. The rugby culture in South Africa is also very social – you’re sure to be invited to a traditional braai when taking on local teams!

By staying in Cape Town and Knysna you’ll explore the country’s fascinating history, as well as the breathtakingly beautiful Garden Route, on a school rugby tour your team will never forget!

Excursions

Cango Caves

The Cango Caves are a series of dripstone caverns that open into vast halls of towering stalagmite formations with names like ‘the bridal couple’, ‘glass flower fantasy’, ‘weird cango candle’ and ‘the hanging shawl’.

Safari Ostrich Farm

Find out what’s involved in farming these gigantic birds and get up close to them on an ostrich safari! Afterwards, try some of the meat (one of the ‘healthiest’ meats as it’s low in both fat and cholesterol and high in calcium, protein and iron), or pick up a souvenir made of ostrich leather.

Table Mountain Cable Car

The best views of Cape Town are seen from the top of Table Mountain. The Cableway takes you to the summit in under 10 minutes and the cable car's rotating floor ensure that all passengers get a 360 degree aerial view of the city.

Boulders Beach Penguin Colony

Boulders Penguin Colony is home to a growing colony of the vulnerable African Penguin. Wooden walkways allow visitors to view the penguins in their natural habitat and there is also a new information centre. Children will love the penguins and their antics and Boulders Beach is also worth a stop for safe and enjoyable swimming.

Robben Island

Robben Island, just off Cape Town’s coast, is a symbol of the triumph of human spirit, democracy and freedom over adversity, oppression and racism. Political prisoners were sent into exile here for over four centuries and it was here that Nelson Mandela spent 18 of the 27 years of his imprisonment for conspiracy to overthrow the apartheid government. Current president, Jacob Zuma also spent time on this inhospitable island in the Atlantic Ocean. It is now home to a museum, where visitors can learn more about the history of the island, as well as what life was like there for prisoners.

Valley of the Waves

What better way to relax with your team than in this spectacular water park? The park’s big draw is the Roaring Lagoon, a huge wave pool where you’ll battle waves of nearly 2m high every 90 seconds! There’s massive slides to chuck yourselves down and, for those more sedate moments, a lazy river that will carry you around an island while you lay back and soak up some of that South African sunshine.

Kariega Game Reserve

When in South Africa, you cannot miss out on a safari adventure. This family-run safari park on the Garden Route is a malaria-free reserve which offers you the opportunity to spot the ‘Big 5’ (the African lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo, African leopard and White or Black rhinoceros).
