Ski trip to La Thuile

Halsbury Sticker

On a school ski trip to La Thuile you can ski in Italy and France on the same day! La Thuile is an attractive mountain village with plenty of shops and restaurants to keep you entertained in the evenings. This is a quiet but safe resort, which still has a huge amount to offer in terms of skiing opportunities – the San Bernardino pass will allow you to ski from La Thuile over the border into the French resort of La Rosière. La Thuile also boasts one of the longest winter seasons in the Alps. Opening at the end of November, you can usually ski in La Thuile well into April. Another major benefit of choosing a high-altitude resort like La Thuile is the fantastic snow conditions.

Ski Information Graphic

Skiing in La Thuile

La Thuile is among one of the largest ski areas in the Alps, with 160km of skiing terrain. The variety of skiing is outstanding and the slopes are strikingly crowd-free, even at half-term. La Thuile is an excellent choice of destination if you have any beginners in your group, as the resort offers them the rare opportunity to learn to ski at 2200m, so they can really enjoy the full mountain experience from day one! Intermediates will love the 11km San Bernardo run, which drops you down into the heart of the French resort of La Rosière. And for the advanced skiers, there are several black runs that will test both your skis and your quads!

Accommodation

Residence Planibel & Aparthotel

The Residence Planibel is an excellent 4* property situated just a few steps from the main lifts and only 30 meters from the ski school. The accommodation is in 4 bed apartments style rooms, although a few 2 and 6 bedded apartments may be available on request. Each apartment is tastefully decorated and well equipped, having a separate twin bedroom with en-suite shower and WC, a large living/dining room with twin beds (one pulls out) and a second bathroom. There is a kitchen area with sink and fridge. All rooms open to an internal corridor leading to the complex facilities. Ski equipment is handily stored in the apartment's foyer. The apartments are spacious and linen and towels are provided. All meals are taken at the hotel restaurant which offers a buffet service with such variety that no-one will go hungry! Returning for seconds is the norm and is openly encouraged, which is great news for hungry pupils! The restaurant also provides hot lunches which is a very welcome addition on those fresh snow days. The quality of the food is fantastic. Facilities include: bar, piano bar, TV room, lounge with WiFi, theatre, disco, 2 large meeting rooms, two swimming pools and a gym. Within the Planibel complex there are also plenty of shops, a well-stocked supermarket, a pizzeria, some restaurants and a disco.
