A performing arts school trip to New York is a must for any student of the subject!

The world’s foremost centre of theatre is home to 40 professional venues located on and off the famous Broadway, and the road’s name has now become synonymous with the quality of the theatre staged here. Not only will your performing arts school trip provide your students with the opportunity to enjoy a Broadway performance first-hand, they can also take part in dance, acting or singing workshops.

New York is also a major filming location, so make sure you take the opportunity to see some of the filming locations of your favourite TV shows and movies, as well as getting the inside knowledge from local guides. This tour is certain to be a wonderful experience your students will never forget. And, of course, you can also choose to make this trip cross-curricular, thanks to New York offering such wonderful opportunities for many subjects, including art, media studies and fashion.

Accommodation

Hostelling International NY

HI New York is Manhattan’s premier hostel, and is located in a landmark building on the Upper West Side. The building was built in 1883 to help widows of both the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 and re-opened as HI New York in 1990.The hostel offers clean, modern, mixed and separate male/female dormitory-style accommodation (4 - 12 bedded rooms) with shared bathrooms in the hallways. Linen, towels and a housekeeping service are provided.Private rooms with and without baths are also available (subject to availability). The hostel is situated just one block from Broadway Avenue and a main subway line, and only minutes from Central Park.

Freehand New York

Situated on Lexington Avenue, the Freehand New York hotel has plenty of green spaces nearby, with Stuvesant Square Park and Madison Square Park on the doorstep. For the Epicureans, there are many local restaurants to tempt the taste buds, while in terms of sites, there is the famous Flatiron building and the National Museum of Mathematics. Rooms available to book: solo, suite, king, triple (three king-size bunk beds), queen, 'Three's Company' (queen bed with an overhead twin bunk attached) and quad (four twin-size bunk beds).

Holiday Inn Express Manhattan Midtown West

Based at 538 West 48th Street in Hell's Kitchen, Holiday Inn Express Manhattan Midtown West is on the doorstep of so much to do and see. Vistors can venture to many attractions nearby, including Central Park, Times Square, Broadway and Lincoln Center, as well as the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum. 'Standard' rooms allow the option of king, double beds or deluxe king beds, plus extra floor space, city views and sofa beds. Free Wi-Fi in all guest rooms.

Take a Tour of New York's TV and Movie Sites

See more than 60 locations around New York familiar to you from both the big and small screen! New York is said to be the most filmed city in the world and many of its landmarks will be familiar to your students, making this a really exciting inclusion in your school trip to New York. Some of the highlights on the tour include *Friends* locations, the *Ghostbusters* firehouse and McGee’s pub, which was the inspiration for MacLaren’s in *How I Met Your Mother.*
Did you know?

The *Ghostbusters* base is an active firehouse in Tribeca – Hook and Ladder 8. The firefighters stationed here were among the first to react to the September 11 th terrorist attacks.

Take the NBC Studios

Take a tour of one of the world’s most famous studios, where *Saturday Night Live*, *The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon *and *Late Night with Seth Meyers *are all filmed. Your tour will start in the new 4K theatre where you’ll watch a short film documenting the history of NBC, before departing on the tour. Your students will learn all about the TV production process, including scriptwriting and producing. You’ll then have the opportunity to produce your own show in the Tour Studio, which you’ll be able to download and keep as a souvenir!

The NBC Studios are located in one of the most iconic skyscrapers in Manhattan – 30 Rockefeller Plaza, also known as 30 Rock. NBC were one of the first tenants when the building opened in 1933.
