A history school trip to York and Ripon with a focus on crime and punishment will give your students the opportunity to experience how this has evolved through the centuries.
You’ll visit York Castle Museum, which is housed in 18 th century prison buildings. Here, you’ll get a flavour of what life was really like in the original cells. You’ll also get to meet some of the most infamous inmates, including notorious highwayman Dick Turpin!
You’ll also enjoy a day focused on crime and punishment at Ripon Museums. Your students will be able to take part in a trial at the Courthouse, enjoy lunch at the Workhouse and take part in a Sinkler Brothers role play at the Police & Prison Museum. You’ll also enjoy a tour focusing on early policing, poaching and transportation, as well as what it was like to ‘do time’.
