Need something bespoke?

Halsbury Sticker

Are you looking for a trip that helps your students better understand human geography? We can tailor-make your trip to help your students learn more about how people engage with the world around them and the impacts and consequences of that engagement.

A geography school trip abroad will allow your students to compare and contrast the human geography in the destination with that of their own locality.

They can look at resource security, land use and economic inequality. Plus, they’ll have the opportunity to explore the economic, social and political changes caused by globalisation.

Popular Destinations For Human Geography trips

Going abroad

You could choose to visit a megacity, like Beijing, Shanghai or Tokyo, where your students can discover more about urban growth and its environmental and social challenges.

They can learn more about the reasons why people migrated to these cities and how the change in population density has been managed over time.

On a trip to Beijing, your students can explore one of the earliest examples of urban planning, in the spectacular Forbidden City.

And in Shanghai, they can find out how the city was opened up to international markets and how this led to its prominence as an important global financial centre.

On a trip to Tokyo, your students can explore how the population increases significantly in the daytime, with workers who live in commuter towns, or bed towns as they’re known in Japan, travel into the city each day for work.

Or head to Dubai, where your students can learn more about sustainable urban development and resource management systems.

They can discover how this former pearl fishing village boomed after the discovery of oil and find out why it’s now become one of the world’s top destinations for luxury tourism.

They can also explore why Dubai has attracted so many foreign workers, particularly from India and Pakistan.

Or why not visit Vietnam, where your students will learn more about the importance of food production and security, as well as world trade and access to markets?

Here, your students can explore the Red River Delta, the most densely populated region of Vietnam which is also the country’s second-most important rice-producing region.

They can also find out how the predominant agricultural activity here, rice production, gave rise to one of the most iconic cultural phenomena – water puppetry.

Why focus on human geography?

Bring the topic to life

Human geography is fascinating but, like many geography topics, really needs to be experienced. By visiting these fascinating destinations, your students will better understand what they’ve been learning about in the classroom, whether that’s factors affecting development, the impact of globalisation and trade, or even how tourism has affected a destination.

Exploring a megacity like Beijing, Shanghai or Tokyo is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Your students will have the chance to see for themselves the impact of high population density on living standards and the need to develop the infrastructure to cope with so many people.

They will also have the chance to explore how these cities became megacities – discovering why people migrated there and when the main waves of migration occurred.

In Vietnam, they’ll see the importance of agriculture to the Vietnamese economy and they’ll learn more about the economic policies that opened the country up to international markets. And they’ll explore why the Reed River Delta is the most highly populated region of Vietnam, despite also being the smallest.

Or if you want to focus on development, why not visit Dubai, where you can explore the reasons behind the rapid urbanisation of this desert area and how this has necessitated innovative ideas to help manage resources such as water.

Inspire the geographers of the future

Getting out of the classroom and experiencing geography in action is the most inspirational experience for students and could really help them develop a passion for geography. The opportunity to explore such exciting destinations and delve deeper into the human experience is one that your students will never forget.

It could even inspire future careers! During your trip, your students will become aware of a variety of careers that are hugely important and that geography could open the doors to for them, such as town and country planners, transportation planners, sustainability consultants, tourist information officers, landscape architects and much, much more!
