Why visit Rome?

Discover Ancient Rome

There’s evidence of human settlement in the area now covered by Rome for more than 10 millennia. But the city is, of course, best known as the centre of ancient Roman society, which built the world's longest lasting empire, lasting over a thousand years from 27 BC to 1453 AD.

As such, the opportunity to explore the city’s past and its influence on ancient history, with visits to the likes of the Roman Forum, the Colosseum and Palatine Hill, make it a fantastic choice for history and classical studies groups.

And even if history isn't your main focus, we highly recommend visiting the Roman ruins – your students’ minds will be blown just by their age! You may also like to include a visit to the Time Elevator - a multi-sensory film taking your students back in time through some of the most important events in the city’s history.

Explore the rich culture of Italy

If you’re looking to give your students a taste of Italian life and culture, a school trip to Rome is the perfect option.

Being the capital, and biggest city in the country, there’s plenty of opportunities to experience the culture Italy is so famous for – from the arts to music to food, they'll get a true feel for la dolce vita. Plus, there are some incredible art galleries and museums in Rome and the Vatican that are certain to inspire young artists.

For language students, an educational trip allows them to exercise their language skills, boosting their Italian speaking and listening skills.

Visit the Vatican

On your school tour to Rome, make sure you take some time to visit the Vatican City. This is the perfect place for religious studies groups to learn about Roman Catholicism, the power of the Church and the role of the Pope.

But this is also a must-visit for other groups – the Roman Catholic Church has played an important role in European history. And the Vatican’s museums hold some of the world’s finest works of art. Plus, you must take the opportunity to see Michelangelo’s spectacular Sistine Chapel in person.
