About Netherwood Academy

Netherwood Academy were the first of our school groups to enjoy a school trip after Covid-19 restrictions were eased. Here, they tell us about their experience of arranging a school trip in the ‘new normal’.

What was your main objective for this school trip?

To help students to develop an interest in Shakespeare ahead of studying his works at greater depth.

And to enhance cultural capital with a trip to the capital city, which some of our students would be unable to do otherwise.

Can you briefly describe the visits and activities you participated in during this trip?

We walked to the Shard, took a guided tour of the Globe theatre and took a walking tour of London to see all the major sights.

What will be your lasting memories of this trip?

Taking the students to see the Shard and also the guided tour of Shakespeare’s Globe.

What did students get out of this school trip?

The opportunity to be a little more independent – this is the first time they will have been allowed some freedom on a school trip.

They will also take from it the experience of seeing the Globe and will be able to use this further in their lessons.

Why did you use Halsbury for this school trip?

We have a longstanding relationship with Halsbury and for the last few years have used them for our battlefields trip to France and Belgium, a New York City trip and this trip to London.

Were there any guarantees that Halsbury were offering that made it easier for you to get senior leadership and/or parents on board?

They provided flexibility with the itinerary and the ability to add students and staff, if needed.

How would you describe the experience of working with Halsbury on this trip?

Excellent. Halsbury have always been accommodating and flexible, as well as replying to concerns and questions more or less straight away.

Would you recommend Halsbury to your friends and colleagues?

Absolutely.
