We offer accommodation at Haus Wendy in the beautiful chocolate box village of Mauterndorf, just 17 minutes’ drive from the slopes. This affordable, family-run hotel offers sole occupancy for groups of at least 50. And you’ll certainly be made to feel at home, as the couple who run the hotel are very used to hosting school groups.
A school ski trip to Obertauern offers your students the opportunity to experience Austria’s snowiest resort. It’s also one of Austria’s oldest ski areas and famous for its beautifully colourful shops and hotels.
Obertauern is the highest ski resort in the state of Salzburg surrounded by the spectacular peaks of the Tauern range. Skiing starts at 1600m, so snow cover is guaranteed from the middle of November until the beginning of May.
With the lifts fanning out from the centre of the town, Obertauern forms a natural ski circuit that’s navigable for everyone of a good intermediate level and can be skied in either direction.
As you would expect of an Austrian resort, Obertauern boasts all the mod cons, including modern, high-speed lifts to get you around quickly, efficiently and comfortably. They also have a range of fun slopes, photo points, timed race courses and speed check zones.
Obertauern is a fantastic choice for a school ski trip because the variety of terrain makes it great for progression. There are excellent nursery slopes, including a high-altitude beginner area that your new skiers will love. Easy runs will take them from the top back into the valley.
For intermediates, the challenge builds the higher you go and those with a good intermediate level should be able to tackle a circuit of the whole area. And there are steeper runs too for the more advanced skiers.
Obertauern is also a fantastic resort for evening entertainment, offering weekly ski shows, bowling, hot chocolate, swimming, thermal spas and sledging, ensuring your group is never bored!
