Spotlight on...Jasper

Jasper, in the Canadian Rockies, is the ideal choice for a school ski adventure.

Set in the heart of Jasper National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this resort boasts some of the most dramatic scenery in the Rockies. You’ll be surrounded by great snow, varied terrain and some incredible wildlife, including elk, caribou and moose!

There are a number of green and blue cruisers for the intermediates, and a surprising number of black runs to keep experts happy. And all runs lead to the base lodge, which is great for groups.

Jasper boasts Canada’s highest base elevation at 5,570ft (1,698m).

As well as excellent skiing, there are loads of other typically Canadian activities to enjoy, such as dog sledding, snowmobiling, ice walking and snowshoeing. There’s cross-country skiing, ice skating on frozen lakes and ice canyon walks too.

You might think that a resort with so much to offer would be jam-packed with skiers. But, surprisingly, winter is the low season in Jasper – it’s actually the summer season that attracts the tourists in Jasper.

This is great news for school ski groups, as it means the slopes are generally uncrowded, so you won’t spend all your time queueing for lifts and your learners will have the space they need.

Plus, the longest high-speed quad chairlift in the Canadian Rockies opened here in 2009, followed by another two brand new chairlifts in 2011, making the whole mountain, all 1720 acres of skiable terrain, really accessible.
